Background: After receiving wellwishers at his place in Teheran, Oct 26, on his 42nd birthday, the Shah of Persia attended a sports display performed in his honour at the city's Amjadieh Stadium.
Some 25,000 spectators cheered Mohammed Reza Palehvi as he appeared in the royal box of the stadium. Many of the people present were shouting "We hope it is a boy" - referring to all Persia's growing anxiety over the delayed arrival of Queen Farah's baby.
In a colourful parade, athletes, students, workers and cadets filed past their ruler. Group exercises by students were followed by displays by police cadets, and the programme ended with a display of fiery club swinging and fireworks.
