    The grand finale to Exercise "Alexander Express - 73" came today as over 1,000 Allied and Hellenic troops with their supporting amour and equipment took part in a parade through the main streets of Kavala, Greece.



    Thousands of local residents reinforced with a large influx of tourists thronged the sidewalks and balconies along the route to express their welcome and feeling of cordiality.



    The splendid impression created by those rugged suntanned troops elicited a spontaneous applause that was carried along the entire route.



    The President of the Republic, Mr. George Papadopoulos took the salute.



    A critique of the exercise, attended by the President of the Republic, proceeded the parade.

    Background: General Andrew J Goodpaster, United States Army, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) announced today that an exercise called Alexander Express, involving in addition to Hellenic Forces, others from Southern and Central Region NATO Nations, the United Kingdom and the United States, will be conducted from 15 June to 28 June 1973 in Northern Greece.

    During the exercise, the multi-national ACE Mobile Force will deploy quickly to Northern Greece on order of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

    Greek National Forces will practice plans for the AMF's reception, as well as plans for co-ordinating the activities of their own units with these of the AMF. Ground units of the ACE Mobile Force will be airlifted from home stations in Europe to Greece. NATO Air Units will provide fighter-bomber and reconnaissance support.

    Alexander Express, which is jointly conducted by forces under the operational central of Admiral Richard C. Celbert, United States Navy, Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe Commander-in-Chief South and General Juergen Bennecke, German Army, Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Central Europe (CINCENT), will be the fifteenth in a series of such exercises involving NATO'S ACE Mobile Force.
