Background: The Shipping unemployment in Greece has been almost solved. Most of the idle shipping -- mostly flying flags of convenience -- have sailed away and only a few old vessels still anchor at Eleusis Bay of the Saronic Gulf. The U.S. -Cuban crisis anyhow will give more work to Greek-owned tankers, for Russia has definitely decided to supply-Fidel Castro with the quantity of crude oil he needs. And well-informed greek shipping circles here wonder whether Stavros Niarchos, the well-known Greek Shipping Magnate, who has signed a 3-year contract with Soviet Union for the transport of 2,000,000 tones of russian oil from the Black Sea to Italian, Scandinavian and Japanese ports, will be "requested" (forced) to make his tankers plying towards Havana. Niarcho-USSR contract will be in force from August 1st, 1960. Reports anyhow from London deny that Niarchos will transport oil to Cuba.
