Background: The four armed convicts besieged in the Scheveningen Jail, near The Hague, Netherlands, released the last of their child hostages on Monday night (28 October). He was an 11 year-old boy, Godfried Clercqs. This still left sixteen adult hostages still under the convicts control inside the prison.

After his release, Godfried was examined by doctors following his threes day ordeal. The Dutch authorities said that the convicts had made no new demands.

Earlier, the leader of the four convicts, a Palestinian hi-jacker Adnan Ahmed Nuri, had threatened the lives of the hostages if a meeting was not arranged with another hi-jacker, Sami Hoessin Tanima. Both men were jailed for five years last June, for hi-jacking a British jet on a flight from Beirut to London, and setting it ablaze at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport.

The Dutch authorities agreed that the two should meet, but Tanima refused the offer. Instead, he told Nuri by radio-telephone that he wanted to stay in Holland and serve out his five-year sentence. He suggested Nuri do the same.

In a second conversation later in the night, Tanima told Nuri that, while he respected his motives in wanting to serve the Palestinian cause, action such as taking hostages in a Dutch jail was not the way to do it.
