    Background: The President of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman has begun his three-day visit to the U.K. with talks with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on bi-lateral
    SYNOPSIS: Number Ten Downing Street, the traditional address of British Prime Ministers, was where Mrs Thatcher greeted the President on his visit to Britain. They were to speak about the Middle East, Afghanistan and other world issues.

    Later the President visited Bangladesh House for talks with fellow countrymen. During his stay he discussed how Britain could help in the economic future of Bangladesh. Particular mentioned was made about the development of the Bangladeshi mining industry and rural electrification, which are both part of the country's second five-year development plan.

    The President has been a professional solider for most of his life, but now a prominent politician,his wife accompanies him on official visits. His country is one of the poorest in the world. Eighty-five million people live in area of just fifty-five thousand square miles - and eighty-five percent of those live below the poverty line.

    Apart from considering more assistance for Bangladesh, Britain is to sign an agreement on industrial cooperation and investment, during the President's visit.
