Background: A new refugee camp, financed by the Catholic Relief Service, was opened by Khmer Prime Minister In Tam today. The camp is located approx 15 kms from Phnom-Penh along Highway Five.
The camp will hold more than a thousand refugees when fully completed.
It has been heralded by Khmer officials as the best-equipped camp in the country.
The most important innovations in the scheme are the fresh water wells, and the intensive agricultural programme (pigs and vegetables) which will be run by the villagers. Many of the refugees had never tasted fresh water until the wells were dug.
The Catholic Relief Service, headed in the Khmer Republic by Fr. MacNamara, is planning ???. ???tions have already been made to build ??? out ??? Penh.
