Background: Bonn was the scene this weekend (April 29/30) of demonstration and counter-demonstration over Chancellor Willy Brandt's treaties with Moscow and Warsaw, recognising present political boundaries between West Germany and Warsaw Past countries.

On Saturday thousands demonstrated in favour of herr Brandt's policies. On Sunday two big groups opposing the treaties demonstrated against them. The extreme right wing NPD political party, and the massive non-party Deutschon VolksUnion-both against the treaties - planned separate protest marches to avoid trouble between their members.
