Background: Despite the tense week-end situation on the east-west zonal borders, some 100,000 West Berliners enjoyed the annual police display at the Olympic Stadium Sept. 3.
Thousands of agile policemen provided an exciting display of mass calisthenics, trick motor-cycle riding and dog handling.
Cheers and applause echoed over the vast arena when all the participants ran on to form with their bodies the inscription "Berlin Hauptstadt von Deutschland" (Berlin. Capital of Germany). Two figures, dressed as the bear emblem of the city, delighted the crowd with their playful antics.
