Background: Manila is the scene for an international conference aimed at assisting governments throughout the world in using scientific developments for the benefit of mankind.
Several hundred scientists are attending the five day conference, titled, "The Survival of Humankind-The Philippines Experiment."
The scientists will discuss ways of adapting modern technological developments for the benefit of the developing nations of the world.
The sponsor of the Conference, Mrs. Imelda Marcos said that the more developed nations of the world had a responsibility to assist the less developed countries. However, Mrs. Marcos added that the countries of the third world also had a responsibility not to slavishly imitate the achievements of the industrialised nations or they would find themselves with what she termed, "the same moral and environmental disasters that we see in so many modern advanced countries."
