Background: A table tennis delegation from The People's Republic of China arrived at Bangkok airport on Sunday (June 17) for a visit to Thailand.
The table tennis delegation, led by Chuang Tse-Tung, a leading member of the All China Sports Federation, left Peking on June 7 for a tour which includes visits to Malaysia, Thailand and Burma.
At Bangkok airport when the table tennis players arrived security was very strict. Two hundred policemen were on duty and journalists were kept away from the visitors aircraft. But the only demonstration was a friendly one - from a group of Thai Chinese who turned out to welcome the visitors.
Later in a Bangkok hotel the Chinese delegation was greeted by officials of the Thai Table Tennis Federation.
Competition will be even keener at the Asian, African and Latin American invitational table tennis tournament to be held in Peking in the autumn.
Last week a Chinese table tennis delegation also visited Japan.
