SPEECH ON FILM (TRANSCRIPT)
GHALI: "We are very much preoccupied by what happened in Lebanon. Our policy is based on the territorial integrity of Lebanon. We are against any kind of partition and certainly we condemned the Israeli intervention in Lebanon, because we believe that this intervention is creating new obstacles in the peace process. We are trying to help behind the scene because as you know we have no diplomatic relations with a certain number of Arab countries, to promote different rapprochement between the different wings in Lebanon. We have tried to set a moment to obtain a resolution from the Security Council, the purpose of which was the 'sensibilisation' of the world public opinion concerning the Lebanese problem and to sum up, we are very much preoccupied and we are trying if we can, find any contribution to help to solve this very dangerous problem. It is more complicated because the Syrian intervention is based on the resolution adopted by the Arab League, and we are were a member of this Arab League when the resolution was adopted. But in general, we believe that foreign intervention in Lebanon, and among them certainly the Syrians, don't to find a solution for the Lebanese problem. As you know, one of our mistakes, we have never taken seriously Colonel Gaddafi and this was a mistake. Now he's becoming very much preoccupied by his destabilisation in Africa.......
....He has intervened in Uganda in central Africa, in Tunisia, in Ghana, in Senegal through the religious movements, in Nigeria, in Egypt, in Sudan and we are very much preoccupied by the destabilisation of Colonel Gaddafi in Africa. Africa is our continent. It is a poor continent. It needs peace and stability so we can overcome the problems of underdevelopment and Africa cannot afford to become the backing of a new cold war, and certainly that the interventionism of Colonel Gaddafi in Africa represents a danger for the unity of Africa and for the stability of Africa."
