Background: Nearly 500 supporters of the rightwing Jan Sangh party were arrested in New Delhi on Friday (18 August) during a demonstration against rising prices.
The target of their demonstration was a store known as the Super Bazaar, which was started by the government some years ago as part of a plan to control prices in stores.
There were several scuffles between police and at one stage tear gas was used to disperse the demonstrators.
The Jan Sangh has threatened to continue the agitation, with bigger demonstrations.
