Background: British world champion motor cyclist ??? Mike Hailwood today (Monday) rode a Japanese Honda to victory in the 250 c.c. lightweight tourist trophy race at the International meeting on the Isle of Man.
It was Hailwood's tenth Isle of Man T.T. triumph. In today's performance he set up new lap and race records.
He completed the six-lap mountain course totalling 226.5 miles (364 kilometre) in the record time of two hours II minutes 47.6 seconds at an average speed of 103.07 miles per hour (165.79 kph).
British riders Phil Read on a Yamaha and Ralph Bryans on a Honda were second and third.
Hailwood was confident of victory before the start of today's race, and he led throughout while it was in progress. He predicted his win in a newspaper story this morning.
In winning he tenth T.T. victory Hailwood equals the record set by Irishman Stanley Woods 27 years ago.
