Background: Nude bathing in the half-a-dozen or so enclosed beaches dotted around Sydney Harbour foreshore has become part of the Australian way of life.

Or so it was thought until recently, when, to everybody's surprise, vice-squad police swooped no the secluded Lady Bay Beach and arrested 42 people.

One of the reasons given for the raid was that "perversions" had been committed. But both local people and bathers alike were sceptical about this. The day after the raid "skinny-dippers" were back in force - openly defying the vice-squad action.

Television cameras did not seem to bother them either. Australian Broadcasting Commission reporter John Gilbert visited Lady Bay Beach the dy after the arrests and fond that most people wanted to tell their side of the story.
