Background: President Rhee was present today at a demonstration firing of an atomic cannon and an Honest John" rocket. The event took place at Camp Saint Barbara, and was conducted by the First United States Corps, in the central sector of the Korea front.
President Syngman Rhee was welcomed by guard of honour ceremonies. On guard duty was the 1st Field Artillery Observation Battalion. There too was the 7th Infantry Division Band; and the 228th Field Artillery Battalion under Captain Kim Yong Seo.
The Korean President watched the firings with General Decker, Commander-in-Chief of the United Nations Corps, and many other high-ranking officers and personalities.
The 280 mm cannon was fired from within camouflage. The projectiles were aimed into the Imjin Range.
