Background: Topless fashions in themselves are not particularly new, but if one London fashion firm has its way, they will be standard wear at least at some of the world's beaches this summer.
The bikini, called by the makers, Cordoba Fashions, the "Kini", is unique in that it is made of leather. Although there's not much of the "Kini", the manufacturers hope that what there is will become a common sight as the weather warms.
The "Kini", being only the bottom half of the bikini design, makes no concession to the non-fashion minded, the makers say. It is made in either chamois leather, or soft glove leather dyed blue. The makers also produce other leather fashions including mini and midi dresses.
The "Kinis" are made in Cordoba's London shop and, according to the company, are initially to be sold in their shop on the South of France at St. Tropez.
Reaction has been mixed -- many people are wondering where a girl could wear such a swimsuit without being stopped by the law. At least one British south coast resort has warned that anyone wearing a "Kini" would be arrested almost at once.
