Background: Many areas in Britain have been hit by heavy rain, high tides and hurrioane force winds. In the West Country, Gloucestershire and somerset ??? were particularly badly hit and streets and houses were under water.
On the South coast the winds which gusted to over one hundred miles an hour coincided with the highest tide for many years. Forty foot waves broke over coastal roads, and police issued a general flood warning.
Flooding along the Sussex cast was reported to be the worst for 10 years.
