Background: Syrian and Israeli jet-fighters engaged in supersonic dogfights over the disputed Golan Heights territory on Saturday (9 September). According to Israeli sources the Soviet-built Sukhoi-7 aircraft of the Syrian Airforce had been intercepted on their way to bomb Israeli villages....probably in retaliation to Israel's attacks on Lebanese and Syrian targets the day before. A military spokesman in Tel Aviv said the Israeli fighters had shot down three Sukhois and damaged a fourth, but a radio report from Damascus suggested that two Israeli Mirage fighters had been shot down in the battle. It also conceded the loss of three Syrian aircraft......one to the Mirages and the others to ground-fired missiles. This library film shot in 1966 and 1967 shows the Sukhoi-7 in take-off from an unnamed airfield, and also.....in Israeli footage......being shot down.
