Background: Wives of Arab heads of state do not customarily make official visits on their own. But Mrs. Jihan Sadat, wife of Egypt's President Anwar Sadat, has again broken with tradition during her visit to West Germany this week.
She has referred to the Visit as a business trip, and it is regarded as part of her campaign to demonstrate that Moslem wives need not remain secluded at home.
In Egypt, she has shown great interest in medical work, specially the care of war wounded. And during her West German visit, she set herself the target of visiting at least one medical or rehabilitation centre a day.
Yesterday, her busy schedule included a helicopter trip to Diessen in Bavarian to visit the SOS children's village there.
