Background: Prince Philip arrived by Comet airliner in Bombay Jan 28 at the start of his week's provincial tour of India. He was received at the airport by the Governor of Bombay Mr. Sri Prakasa and the Chief Minister Y. B. Chavan and other officials.
Prince Philip was given a tremendous welcome which even out-did his welcome in Delhi. Half a million cheering people lined the 18-mile route from the airport to the Governor's residence. Throughout the 45-minute drive Prince Philip sat on the hood at the back of an open car, waving and smiling.
