Background: A seven-storey building was destroyed in an implosion that nearly wen wrong in Cape Town on June 17. Five hundred explosive charges were placed in city Cross House by englishman Bob Daphne to cause the implosion - demolition by controlled inward collapse. This time, however, the implosion was not so controlled, and when the charges were detonated, the block fell partially outwards, giving a risk of damage. Before a gigantic cloud of dust rose over the scene, spectators could see that rubble had thundered down into an adjacent road. Local officials had to call in bulldozers to clear the street. This was the second implosion this year in Cape town.
