SYNOPSIS: The Ivory Coast and Taiwan have renewed a four-year-old Technical Co-operation Agreement. Ivory Coast Foreign Minister Mr. Assouan Usher on Tuesday welcomed the leader of the Taiwan delegation Mr H.K. Yang to the renewal ceremony at the Foreign Ministry building. Mr Yang is Taiwan's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs. The agreement, similar to those operating in 21 other African countries, is one by which Taiwan supplies agricultural experts to help in the Ivory Coast, particularly in rice cultivation.

Mr Usher and Mr Yang formally exchanged instruments of agreement, then signed certain documents, and the formalities were over. The Ivory Coast has made great strides in rice production with the help of Taiwan experts, who are acknowledged leaders in this field.

An hour later, Mr Yang moved on to the Finance Ministry Building, to conclude another agreement binding Taiwan and the Ivory Coast more closely together. With Mr Konan Bedie, Economic and Finance Minister, Mr Yang signed a new trade agreement, Mr Yang concluded his round of visits with a call at the Agriculture Ministry, where he had talks with associates of the Minister, Mr Abdoulaye Sawadogo. Mr. Sawadogo is attending the International Coffee Council session in London.
