Background: Defense Department handout on progress of the United State's manned space program since October, 1961, the first successful launching of a Saturn.

The footage shows various aspects of America's space program the last year and a half, including shots of astronauts, rockets and space equipment. The film traces the development of the progress and the awarding of contracts and work on various phases of the program to a multitude of space industry companies in the U.S. The footage also include static firing of the big Saturn rockets that is expected to take the first Americans to the moon later in this decade and shots of the proposed landing vehicle, the so-called "lunar bug".
