    Background: THE SOVIET PRIME MINISTER, MR. ALEXEI KOSYGIN, TODAY (MONDAY) OPENED A WHIRLWIND TOUR OF SOUTHERN FRANCE AND SAW SOMETHING OF ANGLO-FRENCH COOPERATION. HE VISITED THE AVIATION PLANT WHERE THE SUPERSONIC CONCORDE AIRLINER IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

    MR. KOSYGIN SAW THE 191-FOOT (58 METRE) LONG SECTION OF THE FUSELAGE OF THE CONCORDE 001 -- THE PROTOTYPE OF THE AIRLINER WHICH IS TO MAKE ITS MAIDEN FLIGHT IN FEBRUARY 1968.

    THE CONCORDE IS OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO MR. KOSYGIN. THE SOVIET UNION IS BUILDING A SIMILAR AIRCRAFT, THE TUPOLEV 144, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO FLY IN 1970.

    IN TOULOUSE TO ACCOMPANY THE SOVIET PRIME MINISTER WAS HIS FRENCH COUNTERPART, M. GEORGE POMPIDOU.

    MR. KOSYGIN WILL SPEND THREE DAYS IN SOUTHERN FRANCE BEFORE RETURNING TO PARIS FOR A FINAL ROUND OF TALKS WITH PRESIDENT DE GAULLE -- AND HOME TO MOSCOW ON FRIDAY.
