Background: After three years of anti-terrorist operations in Cyprus, the 1st Dr. Middlesex Regt., the "Diehards", embarked on October 22 for Britain. Major-General Darling, the "toughman" who has recently taken over command in Cyprus, watched the Middlesex men as they boarded the troop ship "Dunera".
According to official despatches, the regiment's activities against EOKA terrorists were described as successful. In one operation the "Diehards" captured an area commander.
Waiting at the quayside to welcome them home will be the "Voice", the Middlesex Regt's now Regimental Sergeant-Major, Tom Macmillan.
