Background: Martyrs Day in New Delhi and all over India which falls on Mahatma Gandhi's Death anniversary was marked for special prayers for those who have laid their lives in the recent fight with the Chinese. In New Delhi prayers were held at Raj Ghat, the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. President Dr. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Mr. Nehru were amongst those who participated in the prayers which started in the early hours of the morning. A large number of people filed past the samadhi and laid flowers. While the Nation pays its gratitude to those who laid their lives and gaining freedom and now in defending it, the government continues to prepare the country for the fuller military defence.
