Background: Cameroon Premier Ahidjo, accompanied by officials, visited the port of Douala, Apl 8, to survey damage caused by raiders the previous night. Twenty-five of 200 attackers were killed by security forces.
The Cameroon, a member of the French Community until Jan 1 1960, is split by violent faction-fighting. A recently-legalised organisation, the Camerouns People's Union, claims independence is unreal, and French influence still strong: they have initiated raids for the last year.
Friday's raid - the second in a week - was particularly ominous, since Sunday is election day for the newly independent state's first National Assembly.
