Background: Memories of the Ibrahim El Awwal - the Egyptian destroyer which was captured while trying to sheel the Israeli port of Haifa - were obviously forgotten when Colonel Gamal Abdel Nasser attended a naval review off Alexandria recently.

Accompanied by the Minister of Defence, General Abdel Hakim Amer; the President of the National Assembly, Abdel Latif el Baghdadi; together with a number of members of the cabinet, the Egyptian President boarded the destroyer "Nasr" to watch the review.

Out at sea, the government personalities crowded the open bridge of the British-built destroyer to see various units of the fleet steam past in line astern.

Among the ships they saw were two submarines of Russian construction that have recently been handed over to the Egyptian navy after sailing to the Middle East via the English Channel.

After a line of torpedo boats had sailed past, the "Nasr" gave a demonstration of anti-submarine activities - firing a pattern of depth charges astern to show her potential hitting power.
