Background: A four-day messing of the Ministerial Committee of Arab Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers ended in Kuwait on Saturday (18 November).
The meeting was hailed by those who attended as a positive step towards closer co-operation by all the Governments concerned, especially in the political field.
Following the meeting, the Arab League Secretary-General, Mr. Mahmoud Riad, told a news conference that one of the agreed results of the conference would be two follow-up meetings in Cairo. Next month, Arab countries commanders-in-chief would meet to prepare the way for a meeting of the All-Arab Defence Council in January.
Mr. Riad even hinted at a possible Arab Summit conference--but cautiously. Whether a summit was held, he said, depended on the outcome of the forthcoming meeting of the Defence Council.
