    THE NEWLY-APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE UNIVERSITY, DR A.A.Y. KYERMANTEN, PAID TRIBUTE TO THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL FOR ITS CONCERN OVER THE WELFARE OF THE UNIVERSITY.

    THE GUESTS WERE ADDRESSED BY THE PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, PROFESSOR TWUM-BARIMA. HE SAID THE UNIVERSITY -- WHICH SPECIALISE IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY -- WILL NOW FULLY COMMIT ITSELF TO STUDYING AND RESEARCHING THE DEVELOPMENT, UTILISATION AND CONSERVATION OF THE COUNTRY'S NATURAL RESOURCES.

    IN AN ADDRESS IN THE GREAT HALL OF THE UNIVERSITY HE SAID THAT THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT HAD DONATED A LARGE QUANTITY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT TO THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING.

    A WEST GERMAN FIRM, RHODES AND SCHWARZ, HAD ALSO DONATED VALUABLE ELECTRONIC MEASURING EQUIPMENT.

    THE UNIVERSITY, WHICH STARTED AS A COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY IN 1951, NOW HAS ABOUT 1,400 STUDENTS. IT HAS SIX FACULTIES AND FOUR HALLS OF RESIDENCE AND 150 MEMBERS OF THE 250-STRONG ACADEMIC STAFF ARE GHANAIANS.
