Background: The past came vividly to life at Stepney, in London's East End, November 1, with a parade of horse-drawn coaches. The streets rang with the unfamiliar clip-clopping of hooves as vistorias, broughams, landaus, growlers and other kinds of carriages assembled outside "The Victory" public house. Even the old Wild West was represented - a team of cowboys from near by Ilford drove up in a stage coach.

The parade, organised by the licensee of "The Victory", Keith Grange, formerly a jockey and trainer, offered prizes for the winners of different classes of coach. "The Victory" stands on Commercial Road, London's main link with the dock area.
