TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ 7): DOUGHERTY: The watch idea was an idea of creating a product. At this period of time it did not really have any political meaning as far as we were concerned and I'm sure that one could read anything that they would went to in it. We feel that the hands are very symbolic of some of the Vice-President's philosophy that, you'll notice that the hour hand has the old baloney symbol which means baloney to the people who are very critical of him because he speaks out on matters that he feels very strongly about, and speaks out whether he feels this is going to help or hurt his image. On the other hand you'll notice that the second had represents the peace symbol which states that he is really in favour of peace and love.

Background: Two years ago United States Vice-President Spiro Agnew was known only to a relatively small number of people, now he is one of the most sought after political figures in America. To his Republican Party he has proves a good fund raiser, and to a Southern California family, Spiro Agnew has meant a brand new business.
It started out as a joke. What does Mickey Mouse wear?.. s Spiro Agnew wrist watch. But for Anaheim physician Dr. Dougherty and his family it wasn't just a joke, but a line that started a whole new business. Dr. Dougherty has enlisted his wife and 10 children to help distribute the wrist watches bearing a caricature of the Vice-President.
A graduate arts student designed the face of the watches and a Swiss company is manufacturing them.
The Doughertys do the final assembly and shipping of the watches in their home, but business is beginning to get ahead of them ever since the product received national attention when Mrs. Ethel Kennedy was seen wearing one of the watches.
Dr. Dougherty says the watch is not a slam against the Vice-President and says he has had very little negative reaction.
