A splendid model of Bethlehem has bee put on display at St Wenceslao Church in Prague. The wooden model contains more than 200 figures and some of them contain tiny electric engines to make them move. The intricate structure is the work of 72-year-old woodcutter Jan Francl. The intricate structure is the work of 72-year-old woodcutter Jan Francl. He first started to make his wooden models of Bethlehem 20 years ago. He made small, simple ones to go under the Christmas tree. Later he tried to make larger, more ambitious ones. To date, he has carved four Bethlehem models. The first can be found in Switzerland. The second, which contains 400 figures, is housed in a museum in Sobeslav, Czechoslovakia. The third is placed in St Wenceslau Church each Christmas and the fourth has just been completed. The model in St Wenceslao contains numerous wooden figures including blacksmiths and stonemasons, the Three Wise Kings, shepherds, animals and families going about their day-to-day business in the streets of Bethlehem.
