REPORTER: "Do you see yourself as being the first black Prime Minister of the new Zimbabwe/Rhodesia?"



MUZOREWA: "Well I think, lets put it this way... we must look at the parties and I believe that anyone who wants to be honest with himself and knows what is going on here in Zimbabwe of course will accept that the largest and strongest party which is likely to be the first to form the first government will be UANC. But as far as who the actual person who will be the first black person I think we'll leave that to the electorate, but I can assure you its going to be a black person after that."



A limited black majority rule constitution approved overwhelmingly by whites in a referendum last Tuesday (30 January) is due to be passed by the Rhodesian parliament on the eight of March. Then says Bishop Muzorewa, Mr Smith's UDI parliament will be dissolved, Bishop Muzorewa claimed that thousands of Patriotic Front guerrillas were joining the transitional government and called for all Zimbabweans to return home and take part in the April elections. He said the west must recognise the post election government... a coalition of national unity; and drop sanctions against Rhodesia

Background: Bishop Abel Muzorewa has strengthened his chances of leading a future black ruled Rhodesia by attracting an estimated one hundred and twenty thousand people to a post referendum, political rally in Salisbury on Sunday, (4 February)
SYNOPSIS: The rally at the Zimbabwe soccer ground was organised by Bishop Muzorewa's United African National Council (UNAC). It served to launch the party's campaign for the planned April elections and to demonstrate the support the Bishop and the UANC have throughout Rhodesia.

An election organiser for the UANC told reporters that if people were prepared to travel up to five hundred kilometres (300 miles) to attend the rally then those people would not be intimidated by guerrilla forces not to vote in the planned elections.

Bishop Muzorewa said guerrilla leaders Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe were murdering, extorting raping and expropriating property of the Zimbabwe masses at gun-point.
