Background: Sydney's Kingford Smith Airport today was the scene of a Royal visit lasting only 15-minutes. It was the first stop for Princess Marina, the dowager Duchess of Kent, on her first visit to Australia. She was greeted by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Eric Woodward, and Lady Woodward.

About one hundred people were at the airport for a brief glimpse of the Royal visitor. Princess Marina arrived aboard scheduled Qantas airliner and left soon after for Canberra, where she will spend 4 1/2 days.

It was a brief and informal meeting, but the Princess will be back in Sydney next Wednesday for the British Exhibition and the opening of the new Gladesville Bridge
Princess Marina flew in a VIP aircraft of the R.A.A.F. An Air Force Guard of Honour saluted he arrival and the Princess' Standard was broken out.

A crowd of about 4,000 at the Fairbairn Air Base saw Princess Marina stop off the aircraft to be welcomed by the Governor-General, Lord De L'Isle, the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, and Dame Patti Menzies.

A troop from the Royal Military College, Dunroon, fired a 21 - gun salute to mark her arrival. Then followed the Royal Salute from the Guard of Honour.

After the colourful and formal welcome, the inspection of the guard and a more informal note. She paused often to talk with members of the guard of honour.

Princess Marina broke away from her schedule to talk to children among the crowd pressed against the barriers.

Later, on the Arrive to Government House, Princess Marina's car stopped 30 times to allow the Princess to talk to local people. Her next official engagement will be tomorrow morning when she attends Divine Service at the Church of St. John the Baptist at eleven o'clock.
