Background: EVERY YEAR THE BUSY AUTOBAHN BETWEEN SALZBURG AND MUNICH, OF THE AUSTRIAN SIDE OF THE AUSTRIAN-GERMAN BORDER IS CLOSED FOR A FEW HOURS TO ALLOW THE RUNNING OF THE MOTOR CYCLE GRAND PRIX. STAGED YESTERDAY, (FRIDAY), IT ATTRACTED RIDERS FROM ALL PARTS OF EUROPE FOR THE FOUR MAJOR CLASS RACES.

HIGHLIGHT THIS YEAR PROVED TO BE THE 250 c.c. EVENT, WHICH WAS WON BY THE CZECHOSLOVAKIAN RIDER, STANISLAV MALINA, RIDING A CZECH-BUILT C.Z. HE DEFEATED A CLASS FIELD, INCLUDING THE HIGHLY FAVOURED RIDER SCHNEIDER, OF AUSTRIA, WHO WAS PLAGUED BY ENGINE TROUBLE.

SCHNEIDER, RIDING A JAPANESE FOUR-CYLINDER SUZUKI, LED THE FIELD FOR EIGHT LAPS, BUT WHEN ONE OF HIS CYLINDERS FAILED TO FIRE, HE FELL BACK TO FOURTH PLACE BUT HE MADE UP A LITTLE GROUND AND FINISHED THIRD.

MALINA'S WIN WAS A CREDITABLE PERFORMANCE AND HE CROSSED THE LINE AHEAD OF BRUCE BEALE, OF SOUTHERN RHODESIA RIDING A HONDA. MALINA'S TIME WAS 31 MINUTES 27 POINT 62 SECONDS -- 13 POINT 28 SECONDS AHEAD OF BEALE.
