To day His Holyness Pope Johannes XXIII took part at a ceremony held at the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura (outside the walls) for the Lent period.
SCENES: The group of cars reaches the Square of San Lorenzo and stop before the main entrance. People lining the edges of streets and square applaud the Pontiff. The procession forms inside the church, comes out, goes slowly around the square and reenters the Basilica. The ceremony ended inside the church, the Pope comes out once again, boards His car and the group leaves to return to the Vatican City.

Background: To day His Holyness Pope Johannes XXIII took part at a ceremony held at the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura (outside the walls) for the Lent period. After the ceremony held inside the church the Pope came out and walked once around the square in front of the Basilica. He then reentered the church.
The Basilica in question is one of the oldest of the nine which are part of this city. It was built in the year 1200. During the first bombing the city of Rome underwent in the second world war (on July 19th 1943) this basilica was almost completely destroyed. After the war the church was rebuilt and reopened to public worship on August 10th 1949.
