Background: Admiral John S. McCain, the U.S. Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific, arrived in Phnompenh yesterday (Thursday) for talks with the Khmer premier, Marshal Lon Nol.
The Commander-in-Chief, who arrived on a special American navy aircraft, will spend three days in the Khmer capital,
His talks with Marshal Lon Nol came soon after his arrival, An American Embassy spokesman said they discussed the progress of the war during the past year since he last visited Phnompenh, future military operations and the political situation in South East Asia.
During the day, Admiral McCain also met the Deputy Premier, Sirik Matak, the Foreign Minister, Koun Wick, and members of the Khmer military high command.
He was given an hour-long briefing at the country's military headquarters.
Admiral McCain leaves tomorrow (Saturday).
