Background: Girls in pigtails and boys in shorts raised their right arm in salute as they took the oath of loyalty to the Government at a ceremony making the 15th anniversary of the Pioneer Youth Organisation in Sofia this month.

Boy trumpeters sounded a fanfare heralding the ceremonial award to the Organisation Secretary of the high Order of the People's Republic of Bulgaria. In Freedom Park the boys and girls then stood in line to receive scarves "symbolising the happy days of Bulgarian children in a happy country."
They saluted Army General Mihailov and in making their pledge gave thanks "to the dear Party for our camps and happy days." Later the young Pioneers in their new scarves laid flowers on the city's Liberty Monument.
