REPORTER: "How does Lulu feel about all this?



KEEPER: Oh, very happy...like a real mother...proud. She enjoys it, picks the baby up, she kisses it, she has a big smile on her face -- she's got real happiness in he eyes as you can see.



REPORTER: She's very protective."



KEEPER: Oh yes, but very free too. Very gentle and I can open the cage, clean the cage, and she'll give me a kiss...um...any other keeper here...very gentle - and you can take a look yourself, and see her look - that's happiness."

Background: Officials at the Central Park Zoo in New York were astonished when their seven-year-old Gorilla, Lulu, gave birth on Monday (11 Sept) -- they had not realised Lulu was pregnant.

They called the new arrival Sunny Jim, until closer inspection showed it was a girl. It's the first baby gorilla to be born in the New York area, and the proud mother is delighting in shown he baby off to photographers and members of the public.
