Background: In Argentina police are making a widespread search for the honorary British Consul kidnapped from the city of Rosario. The man, 58-year-old Mr. Stanley Sylvester, was abducted on Sunday as he was about to drive away from his home in Argentina's second largest city some 200 miles (320 km) north-west of Buenos Aires.
Armed police patrolled the streets of Rosario and guards were stationed at the Sylvester home.
The next day Britain's ambassador to Argentine, Mr. Michael Hadow, called on the Foreign Minister, Senor Luis De Pablo Pardo, to express concern at the kidnapping.
Mr. Sylvester was the fourth victim of political and diplomatic kidnappings in Argentina in the past 15 months and the third Briton abducted in the world-wide wave of kidnappings.
