Background: Japanese foreign minister Etsusaburo Shiina arrived here today to begin a four day good will visit at the invitation of foreign minister Tong Won Lee amid strong indication that the two will pave the way for settlement of 13 year old Korea-Japan normalization talk.
Two rounds of political talks scheduled between them highlight Shiina's visit.They are expected to provisionally sign a treaty of basic relations between the two countries.The foreign ministers of the two countries are further expected to take up details about the proposed ministerial level trade talks and agriculture forestry ministers' talks.
Today after the arrival Shiina will call on prime minister II Kwon Chung for a courtesy call and all the political talks will come after tomorrow.Mean time, the opposition parties decide to wage an all-out struggle against diplomatic normalization with Japan unless the dubious Kim Ohira memorandum is nullified and further negotiations carried out on a suprapartisan basis.
And former president Posun Yun, announced yesterday that his party is strongly opposed to the Korea Japan normalization talks in any form unless the so-called "Kim - Ohira memorandum" be scrapped, the peace Line kept intact and the unbalanced trade relations between the two countries inporved in favour of Korea.
Police reported that the some students applied a permission for staging demonstration but all this were turndown and warned that police would take stiff action against possible demonstrations reportedly planned to go staged during Japanese Foreign Minister Etsusaburo Shiina's four-day visit to Seoul.
