Background: A powerful bomb blasted the annex of the embassy of the Libyan Jamahiriyah in Paris in the early hours of Tuesday, (6 May) morning.

SYNOPSIS: The blast, from what is thought to have been a home-made bomb, happened shortly before five a.m. It had been placed outside the door of the building which is in a residential area of Western Paris.

Although there was widespread damage, police reported no casualties. Windows of about a dozen neighbouring buildings were shattered and about eight cars parked nearby were damaged.

An anonymous telephone caller later in the day, told a French news agency that the blast was the work of hitherto unknown group called "Militant Zionist Resistance". The caller said the bomb was placed as revenge "for the torture of Jews in Libya and other Arab countries". In Libya itself, recently, there has been a considerable campaign against opponent of Colonel Gadaffi's regime.

Later, another home-made bomb went off outside the offices of the Moslem Students Association.
