Background: INTRODUCTION: The Premier of the Canadian state of Ontario, Mr william Davis, is currently on a private visit to Israel.

SYNOPSIS: On Thursday (20 January), Mr Davis and his wife visited an Israeli military post near the so-called "Good Fence"... the border between Israel and Lebanon. Mr. Davis inspected Israeli medical facilities at the border.

After inspecting a medical clinic near Metulla, Mr Davis and his party talked to some of the Lebanese Christian soldiers who often cross the border to visit the Israeli medical facilities. Many of the people in the south of Lebanon come to the Israeli clinics for treatment.

Israeli officials along the border talked to Mr Davis about the current situation in the area. He praised the work the Israelis were doing to promote peace in the region. Earlier in his trip the Ontario Premier visited Masada and other Christian holy places including Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth. He also held a series of informal talks with several Israeli leaders.
