Background: Egyptian President Anwar Sadat flew to Khartoum on Wednesday(March 15) for discussions with Sudanese leaders on King Hussein's proposals for a federated state of Jordan.

After more talks with his host, President Jaafar E1 Nimoiry, on Thursday President Sadat visited an Egyptian military college. there he told students that Egypt is to make its own sophisticated military weapons.

His mention of local manufacture was the first to be made by an Egyptian leader. In the past, Cairo has relied entirely on the Soviet Union for sophisticated armaments. President Sadat said Egypt would produce its own weapons because Israel has been given a weapons-producing capability by the United States.
