Background: In Vientiane, Laos, Local and foreign pressmen were allowed on January 7th. to interview two prisoners of war captured by the Government Forces.
At a press conference Secretary Of State For Foreign Affairs Chao Sopsaisana and Minister For Information Bouavan Norasing told pressmen that government troops were making gains against the forces of Capt. Kong Le and the Pathet Lao. But correspondents in Vientiane discounted these claims.
They also claimed that the captured prisoners were "Vietminh" (Communist North Vietnam) soldiers.
One of them, born in South Vietnam said he was fighting with the Vietminh in July 1954 during the ceasefire negotiations.
The second prisoner said he was born in Pakse, South Laos. He was reportedly fighting with Vietminh Force.
