Background: Eleven United States Black Panther delegates, led by Eldridge Cleaver, toured a women's militia camp in Thanh Hoa Province during a visit to North Vietnam recently.
The Black Panther Delegation are travelling through the country at the invitation of the North Vietnam -- USA solidarity committee.
At the militia camp the American visitors watched a demonstration of anti-aircraft guns operated by the women militia. The camp is situated about 90 miles ( 140 kms ) South of Hanoi and the anti-aircraft battery claims to have shot down two United States planes during the bombing of North Vietnam.
Among the American visitors, was Miss Patricia Sumi, an American-born Japanese girl from California.
The tour leader, Mr. Cleaver, inspected the anti-aircraft guns and afterwards the visitors joined the North Vietnam women in making the "Black Power" salute.
Mr. Cleaver said later that the Black Panther Delegation had been impressed with the patriotism of the North Vietnamese and their "anti-imperialist enthusiasm" He said the Black Panthers would report on conditions in North Vietnam when they return to the United States and would do their utmost to condemn President Nixon's Asian policy.
The delegation had previously visited the Soviet Union and North Korea before arriving in North Vietnam.
