Background: Fashion....a Christian Dior London favour the soft and ultra-feminine look in their 1979 Spring collection, displayed in London on Tuesday (13 March).

SYNOPSIS: The collection began with the most classic of colour combinations -- black and white. Model Fiona at the left, wears a woollen check suit with matching hat, a modified trilby. Besides her, model Camilla shows a three-quarter length jacket and a skirt in white check wool. Her hat is cross between a shallow pillbox and shaped beret, and her stockings feature the new style -- side seams.

Here, the blonde model at the left has a burgundy wool jacket with high neck and square shoulders above a black crepe skirt and ankle strap shoes. The other outfit shows a black crepe de chine shirt beneath a burgundy flannel jacket, and a low-hemmed black crepe skirt.

The red straw chapeau that model Almede is sporting appears to have been inspired by the old-fashioned priest's hat. Her dress is in printed crepe de chine, mostly red and white, with dabs of yellow here and there. Matching accessories and a wide red sash belt and red shoes. The material of model Carin's three-quarter length jacket is identical printed crepe de chine, and the belt, too, is the same. They blend with a skirt of red crepe, a red hat and matching open-toed shoes.

Finally, Pamela in a cocktail dress of floral design in printed silk organza. At the top, the dress is boat-necked and sleeveless, nipped at the waist by a huge bow in creme de menthe green. The lower half billows slightly at the back, gathered loosely in puff folds. The look, although meant to make martini glasses pause while spectators take it in, has an understated effect, set off with simple court shoes in off-white.
