    Background: No matter what may have happened to Taiwan's status in the United Nations, overseas Chinese from all over South East Asian are still the mainstay of the tourist industry. They come to renew contact with the country they still consider the rightful government of China. The government in Taipei, for its part, makes great effort to give these visitors a friendly welcome, encouraging them to see the sights around Taipei and putting on stage performances whose traditional elements still appeal to Chinese all over the world.
