Background: Preparations were underway in Pairs, on Friday (January 5) for top-level Vietnamese peace talks beginning on Monday (January 8) between U.S. President advisor, Dr. Henry Kissinger, and North Vietnamese senior envoy Le Duc Tho. Security officials and French police were busy tightening security on the suburban villa to be used as a meeting place, while 'technical talks' continued -- aimed at organising a cease-fire before the top-level sessions, the first since December 13.

SYNOPSIS: Security officials and French police were busy preparing a villa in the suburbs of Paris, on Friday for Monday's top-level Vietnam peace negotiations -- broken off on December the thirteenth after failure to reach agreement. The two negotiating teams will be led, once again, by United States presidential advisor Dr. Henry Kissinger, and North Vietnamese senior envoy Le Duc Tho.

Meanwhile, America's Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mr. William Sullivan -- based at the U.S. Embassy in Paris -- continued 'technical talks' on Friday with North Vietnamese officials, aimed at bringing about a ceasefire before Monday's top-level talks. But the North Vietnamese negotiators, who're based in another Paris villa, were still pressing for further concessions from the United States.
